No coyotes howl
But I keep on listening
And just hear myself
This rock was seen at Wild Mountain campsite, above a tall lookout rock from which a group of us watched the sunset. I sketched it quickly as darkness fell.
Several people on the trip noticed that we had not heard coyotes howl the entire time. This made we wonder why, and I never stooped listening for them. I didn’t hear the coyotes, but I did spend a lot of time in contemplative thought—hence the haiku
